SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3RD / 4-5 PM / BANNED BOOKS AUDIOBOOK WALK LISTENING PARTY @ NEW BOOK JOY IN BROOKFIELD
Local Readers (GROWN-UPS) - Join us for a SPECIAL AUDIOBOOK WALK (SILENT BOOK CLUB LISTENING PARTY EXPERIENCE + OPTIONAL MIX + MINGLE!) starting and ending at our New Book Joy Booktique in Brookfield (3741 Prairie Ave) - in celebration of Banned Books Week! (BONUS: ALL ATTENDEES WILL GET A FREE AUDIOBOOK CREDIT FROM OUR AMAZING AUDIOBOOK PARTNER: LIBRO.FM!!!)
We'll meet at our bookstore, then embark on an hour-long quiet "reading" listening time adventure together while taking a walk to (and through!) Kiwanis Park from 4-5 PM.* All attendees will enjoy their audiobooks of choice on their own portable devices, and though all audiobook platforms are permitted for the listening portion of our event, we encourage downloading the Libro.FM app (and selecting New Book Joy as your local bookstore) before the event so you're ready to receive your FREE AUDIOBOOK CREDIT.
IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, WE WILL MOVE OUR AUDIOBOOK LISTENING PARTY INSIDE OUR BOOKTIQUE! In this scenario, feel free to bring coloring books, journals / sketchbooks, knitting needles / hand sewing projects, or any other quiet activities to enjoy while listening inside too.
In either circumstance, we will host an optional 30 minute soirée in our bookstore after the event from 5-5:30 pm too so that readers can have the opportunity mix and mingle with other local Chicago / Chicagoland book lovers to talk about what they're reading, enjoy a beverage** & GET AN EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNT if they choose to shop our curated selection of books and reading pairings afterwards (talk about some good self-care)!
**KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: DISCOUNTED DRINKS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE after the walk (WINE, BEER + MOCKTAILS), along with SWEET ‘N SALTY SNACKS!
*ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: THIS IS A 3/4 MILE MINIMUM WALK (OR MORE IF YOU'D LIKE TO TAKE ADDITIONAL LAPS AROUND THE PARK WITH US)! GUESTS ARE INVITED TO WALK AS A GROUP OR SPLIT OFF TO WALK AT THEIR OWN PACE. IF THE ENTIRE WALK IS NOT FEASIBLE FOR YOU OR YOUR CREW, WE INVITE YOU TO PICK A PARK BENCH TO SIT AND LISTEN TO YOUR AUDIOBOOK - YOU'LL STILL BE A PART OF THE PARTY! (There's plenty of parking around the park too, if you'd rather meet us at the park instead of our Booktique to save you some steps.)

Local Readers + History Lovers (GROWN-UPS 21+) - Join us in-person at the Metra Train Station in Riverside, then set off to enjoy a Bookish Walking History Tour (led by bookstore owner Mandy Genge and local history teacher Jennie Crownson, who will share book recommendations and historical snippets inspired by Riverside's past and present). Attendees are invited for an after-walk Mix + Mingle at Vinette: The Little Wine Shop in Riverside's Metra Train Station from 7-8 pm where they can hear even more stories and enjoy optional sips from a local woman-owned small business. Bring your own new or gently used book to swap with any other books that are brought to this event (or any extra titles that we have available for the swap).
